Final Fantasy Resonance: Best Early Game Builds for Each Character

Make an impact in combat and start off strong!

8 min read

In Final Fantasy Resonance, equipping the right weapons, armor, accessories, and Visions to a character can further improve their stats, create new synergy with passive abilities and bonuses, and properly refine a particular build or approach.

If you're wondering about how you can best utilize your party in the early stages of the game, how to properly set up your equipment, and where you can source the best possible options for each member, this guide goes over everything you'll need to know. Here is a complete breakdown of the best builds for every Final Fantasy Resonance character to help you thrive in the early game.

Note: For purpose of this guide, the early game is considered to be everything from Chapter 1 to Chapter 3.

Best Early Game Rain Build in Final Fantasy Resonance

Rain is a Sentinel role character who is unlocked from the beginning of the story. He naturally has strong Physical Attack and Physical Defense skills, as well as decent Magic Attack, Magic Defense, Sanctity, Strength, Stamina, and Spirit.

This makes him able to take on the role of a DPS Tank, absorbing hits and dealing strong physical or elemental attacks with his sword. He's great for securing staggers, but with the help of Visions, he can also pivot into a situational support at times, flexing his role as needed depending on how the battle goes.

This lets him keep other allies up with heals to set up the next combos or buy enough time for your other healer to get everyone back on their feet. Fina will be your primary option at this stage, so Rain is able to back her up as an off-healer, somewhat taking on a Paladin role. This is a very strong approach for the start of the game and can carry you through most of the early content with little issues.

Vitality CharmAccessory 2Increases HP by 120.Can be obtained from a chest in the 1-Star room of Oblivion Palace after collecting 3 Tablet Shards.
Best Equipment for Rain in the Early Game
  • Flametongue significantly boosts Rain's damage potential, as he has multiple abilities that can trigger the additional damage from fire attacks with Fire, Fira, and Flame Sword. Flame Sword in particular is taken up a notch with Falmetongue, and is great for securing easy staggers or finishers.
  • Surcoat gives Rain a little more survivability with 80 extra HP, which enables him to tank a bit more damage to secure the next hit or keep an ally on their feet.
  • Bulletproof Vest and Vitality Charm further boost Rain's survivability and defense, granting him more uptime and making him harder for enemies to get through. During the early game, he is your tankiest pick by far, and these items enable him to be a playmaker in this role.

Best Vision & Abilities for Rain in the Early Game

The best Vision for Rain in the early game is Warrior of Light. This choice is far too good not to pair with Rain; the Provoke effect enables him to force enemy focus on him so he can use his tankier HP pool to absorb hits as his allies focus on damage. Then, the likes of Cure, Curaga, and Protect enable him to pitch in with healing his teammates and raising their defenses to keep them on their feet.

It is very handy to have Rain pivot into healing if Fina is about to go down in order to keep her up, to buy time for her to use an Ether, or simply take over when needed.

Best Early Game Lasswell Build in Final Fantasy Resonance

Lasswell is available from the very beginning of the game alongside Rain, falling under the Breaker role. He's significantly speedier than Rain, and his most powerful stat is his Physical Attack, but he's also very well-rounded in almost every area other than Spirit. His speed enables him to often strike first, and he's great at building up Stagger.

His strongest attacks are elemental attacks with his sword, such as Blizzard, Blizzara, and Dawn Frost, but he can also set up buffs and create attack opportunities for himself or his allies with the likes of Haste, Hone Senses, and Placidity.

Stagger RingAccessory 2Increases Stagger power by 10%Can be obtained from a chest in the 1-Star room of Oblivion Palace after collecting 12 Tablet Shards.
Best Equipment for Lasswell in the Early Game
  • Lasswell's strongest attacks come from his elemental sword attacks, such as Blizzard, Blizzara, Dawn Frost, and Ice Splitter. His strongest utility options such as Hone Senses and Haste also require MP management, so not only does the strong Magic Attack stat on Iwakirimaru go far, but the passive MP increase is handy too.
  • As he is a bit more vulnerable to damage, Surcoat helps balance out Lasswell's survivability with an additional 80 HP, helping him stay up on the field longer and get more value from his Staggers and MP attacks.
  • Most of Lasswell's value at this point comes from being able to frequently build up Stagger, and the Stagger Ring increases this strength. Idaten's Shoes increases his speed, ensuring he's able to hit enemies hard before they can react. If you want to opt for maximum speed increases, you can also go for 2x Idaten's Shoes for +10 speed, rather than the Stagger Ring.

Best Vision & Abilities for Lasswell in the Early Game

The best Vision for Lasswell in the early game is Cloud, as he further enhances Lasswell's role as a Breaker, focusing on Staggers. He also comes equipped with powerful Water and Lightning attacks that give Lasswell a bit more variety other than Ice, which comes in handy for exploiting enemy weaknesses.

The Cloud Vision can be obtained from the Sanctum of Cloud, which is found near the Village of Kol, up North from Siren's Tower. The answers you select to the questions asked while obtaining Cloud do not matter - they will all still lead to acquiring him as a Vision for your team.

Both Warrior of Light and Tronn offer viable Stagger effects that can strengthen Lasswell's entire approach even further, as well as set up counterattacks for even more Stagger oppotunity.

Best Early Game Fina Build in Final Fantasy Resonance

Fina is a Healer and will almost certainly be your main support character for the majority of the early game. She has the most powerful healing options, some strong utility, and notable Spirit, Magic, and MP stats, but less Strength than the others.

Luckily, there's some great Vision, weapon, and equipment options to set Fina up with a great early game healing build so that she can really thrive in combat.

Mage's GlassesAccessory 2Increases MP by 15Purchased for 800 from Grandshelt, the Royal Capital, Olderion, or the Town of Amore.
Best Equipment for Fina in the Early Game
  • Floral Arc and Spirit Veil as the weapon and armor combination offer base stat increases and an additional focus on Sanctity improvements, letting Fina lean into this for her healing capabilities and support abilities.
  • Using 2x Mage's Glasses in Fina's accessory slots results in a significant MP increase of +30, which opens up more flexibility with how she uses her most powerful heals, utilities, and attacks. Basically, she's given more ammunition to be the main support for your entire team.

Best Vision & Abilities for Fina in the Early Game

In the early game, Leah is a solid choice for Fina, as her Healer-based kit can supply her with useful healing and utility options in battle.

As Fina is your main support, getting your hands on some good utility ASAP is smart, and Leah can solve this with no problems, as she's literally one of the two visions you are first granted within the cave at Rain's house.

Best Early Game Lid Build in Final Fantasy Resonance

Lid is a Commando character who fluctuates a bit during her first stretch as a part of the team. At first, she's solid as Mechabo proves itself to be a valuable asset, offering strong options for combat. After you lose Mechabo though, you'll need to make do without these until you can complete the side quest to get him back on his feet.

During this time, you'll need to pivot towards using her magic attacks to focus on enemy weaknesses and break through stagger. This set of accessories and equipment enables you to do so.

Best Equipment for Lid

NameEquipment TypeDescription / EffectsHow to Get
Morning StarWeaponPhysical Attack: 45
Magic Attack: 118

Obtained from a chest at Town of Amore. Reach by following stairs to an underground path at one of the homes northwest from the shop.

Jeweled RingAccessory 2Prevents Petrify and ParalysisPurchased for 2000 from Town of Amore.
Best Equipment for Lid in the Early Game
  • Morning Star only requires reaching the Town of Amore to get, and it offers her both a solid Magic Attack stats as well as the additonal magic attack power increase to help make up for the, well, the lack of Mechabo.
  • Lid's starting armor is okay, but Astral Jacket offers a significant boost from 48 Physical Defense and 41 Magic Defense to 55/90, and only at the prerequisite of having collected 28 total Tablet Shards, which you were probably naturally doing anyways.
  • For Accessories, Lid gets most of her value from staying up, away from pesky status effects, and helping Lasswell with the Stagger situations. Stagger Ring gives her an edge with this, while Jeweled Ring completely stops her from being shut down by Paralysis of Petrify effects.

Best Vision & Abilities for Lid in the Early Game

For Lid, the best Vision option when it comes to those who are accessible fairly early in the game is none other than Terra. With Mechabo out of action for a stretch, Terra's strong magical abilities fill the gap, and are boosted by Morning Star.

He can be found in the Sanctum of Terra, southwest of Felicitas.

Select abilities from Tronn and Warrior of Light also come in nicely for this build, as they can be procced by Stagger to increase Lid's survivability, making this an even more effective strategy for her uptime.

Best Early Game Nichol Build in Final Fantasy Resonance

Nichol is a hugely powerful asset from the moment he first joins your side. He's a Synergist role character who offers insane utility for the team plus powerful Water attacks. He acts as a secondary support who can pivot between utility and damage, while Fina maintains healing (with help from Rain when needed). His most powerful stats are his Speed, Magic, Spirit, and MP.

Earrings of HealthAccessory 1Increases HP by 70.Equipped to Rain and Lasswell at the start of the game - just swap over!
Jeweled RingAccessory 2Prevents Petrify and ParalysisPurchased for 2000 from Town of Amore.
Best Equipment for Nichol in the Early Game
  • Nichol is your newest team member, so there won't be as many options for him yet. However, the combination of R'lyeh Text and Cape of the Raiju are a strong start, He gets the most value from his powerful utility abilities and water attacks, and this Armor offers additional MP to play with. R'lyeh Text also boosts his offensive power with +30% damage to Water attacks, meaning he can pivot into a more aggressive approach when needed.
  • Earrings of Health gives a buff to his survivability by adding more HP, and Jeweled Ring ensures Nichol can remain your main strategist and buff/debuff playmaker by preventing himself from ever being affected by Petrify and Paralysis.

Best Vision & Abilities for Nichol in the Early Game

The best early Vision choice for Nichol is Onion Knight, who can be obtained from the Sanctum of Light. Onion Knight offers Job Change as a passive, meaning any physical attacks will be registered as magic attacks instead, and more attack variety with Flare. Limit Burst is important for Nichol and Onion Knight also further boosts this with a passive that triples the LB gauge fill rate.

In terms of abilities, Nichol finds value in choices from Firion and Tronn, lowering his MP costs to help with resource management in extended fights, improving the number of actions taken per turn, and adding bursts of fill to the LB gauge. With this setup, Nichol will be a new force to be reckoned with!
