Moonlight Peaks takes place in a supernatural town that is jam-packed with intriguing residents that players can get to know, befriend, help on quests, and even romance, date, and marry. Part of the unique charm of the game is the art style, specifically when it comes to the character portraits attached to these residents, and the emotions they portray during each interaction.
However, while the art style is rather original and a big appeal to some players, other fans have found it less favorable for their personal taste. However, there are actually two different portrait options to choose from in Moonlight Peaks, which enables players to choose whichever art style takes their fancy more. How to Change Portrait Styles in Moonlight Peaks & All Differences, Explained
In Moonlight Peaks, there are two different character portrait styles that players can choose from - Style 1, and Style 2. Portrait Style 1 is the game default, featuring that unique, charming art style with more a semi-realistic, stylized cartoon styled rendering.
Style 2 features a more 2D, anime-inspired art direction, as seen below.
You can change your portrait style at any point throughout your playthrough by opening the menu, heading into settings, and toggling between the two options at the bottom of the menu.
However, there is a bit of an interesting thing to consider for Style 2. This style is supposed to take a more anime-influenced approach, yet it seems that there have been two artists involved in completing the Style 2 portraits.
There are some pretty significant differences between the two styles, which have resulted in some inconsistencies across the portraits as a whole. Essentially, some look much more 'anime', while the others still have strong elements of Style 1's rendering and more semi-realistic toon features - just a bit less chibi-fied.
For example, the four portraits shown below are all Style 2, yet look quite different stylistically:
If you're a fan of consistency, then you'll probably want to stick with the original Style 1. However, if you want to opt for a less chibi-like array of portraits and don't mind the variety, then swapping over to Style 2 is your best bet.
Can You Add Custom Portraits in Moonlight Peaks?
Yes, there is even the ability to add custom portraits/image files for each character in the game, though this must be done through modding. However, it is very important to note that a lot of the custom portrait mods for Moonlight Peaks currently available are not simply fan redraws in their own styles, but instead AI-generated images based on the original game artworks and character images.
Out of respect for the Moonlight Peaks developers and artists, we will not be including any direct links to these mods. Just know that it is possible to do so if you would like to further customize your game, and as more time passes, there will likely be more ethical options available, such as original hand-drawn fan character portraits, or even the ability to potentially choose between Style 1 and Style 2 for each individual character, rather than applying them as a complete set. As is the way with mods, possibilities are endless; it will likely just take time.
