Moonlight Peaks: How to Unlock Mermaid Form & Visit Luna Bay

Time to go for a swim!

Updated 5 min read

With Moonlight Peaks already out for a few weeks, you've probably already unlocked the Hellkitten form. However, you might have noticed that there are two other animal transformations you can do. One of these is the mermaid form, which only unlocks under a few specific conditions in Moonlight Peaks.

The mermaid form can only be accessed by getting into Luna Bay. But to do so, there are a couple of quests and perhaps a friendship requirement you need to improve in the game. If you're curious about how to unlock the mermaid form, access Luna Bay, and more in Moonlight Peaks, you've come to the right place with our guide below.

How to Access Luna Bay & Meet the Mermaids in Moonlight Peaks

To access Luna Bay, it's said that you need to increase your friendship a bit with Ludo. You can increase your friendship with him by gifting him his favorite foods, such as Angry Pizza, Margherita Pizza, Puk's Pizza, Veggie Burrito, Blueberry Pancakes, and Hamburgers. He also likes flowers such as the Black Azalea, Black Plumeria, Black Rose, and Black Tulips.

Additionally, regarding seasonal requirements, we've seen varying experiences: some players get access to Luna Bay in Winter, while others do in Year 2. However, this experience has us meeting Ludo in Fall of Year 1.

After increasing your relationship with Ludo, you'll eventually have him visit your home and tell you that he found a strange hole in the Howling Marshes through the quest "A Curious Passage." The hole is too small for him; however, it just might be the perfect size for your Hellkitten form.

After reading this quest, you can go to the Howling Marshes, where you find the hole and Ludo. Ludo tells you that the hole is rumored to lead into Luna Bay, where mermaids reside. You can then change into your Hellkitten form, where you can find the small sandy islands around Luna Bay and meet the mermaids.

Once you arrive in Luna Bay, you get to meet and interact with Rei, Tae, and Kim of the Hosu Family. After that, you have to wait for the next Luna Bay-related quest. '

You'll then work on the quest "A Touch of Magic," which has the Witch Coven under Fiona officially recognize you as a member of the Witch clan, and she gives you the Witch's Wand.

When you've completed "A Touch of Magic," you can then get the quest, "The Mysterious Bay," where you find Samael and Kim longing for each other. Samael has you deliver a letter he's written for Kim, and she asks for your help to lift the tree by a waterfall within Moonlit Pines so she can travel to Moonlight Peaks.

You'll have to use the Aborascend I spell to move the tree, which you can buy from Sabrina at the Webb of Wonders. As you've finished that, Samael and Kim can finally meet.

How to Fix the Bridge in the Howling Marshes

For Ludo, however, he's determined to meet the mermaids himself. Ludo volunteers to help Ridge repair the bridge in the Howling Marshes so that the residents of Moonlight Peaks can visit Luna Bay in the quest "Ludo's Plan."

This quest requires you to make a simple Margherita Pizza to give to Ludo to once again "energize" him in his endeavors. You can find the recipes in your journal.

As you give the pizza, the bridge will be fixed, and you, alongside the rest of the Moonlight Peaks residents, can finally access Luna Bay without you even having to use your Hellkitten form.

With that, you can attend the party at Luna Bay to celebrate the return of the mermaids in Moonlight Peaks. Here as well, we'll see Samael and Kim wanting to get married. Plus, you'll eventually also get a cutscene wherein the Hosu family of mermaids will finally have their own crest added in the Crest Garden.

How to Unlock Mermaid Form in Moonlight Peaks

After fixing the bridge in the Howling Marshes so everyone can access Luna Bay, we then find a quest later on called "The Mermaid's Wish." This quest has Kim asking you for help as she wants to walk down the aisle when she gets married to Samael.

Ludo suggests that Yabbis may know something about helping Kim get legs for her to walk on land. You then talk to Yabbis, and he asks you to get some Special Shells in the Cave of Echoes and at Misty Shores. This is for the potion he'll brew up.

You'll then have to grind the shells in your Alchemic Mortar and bring the Special Shell Powder to Luna Bay, where Yabbis completes the potion.

Yabbis will then give the potion to the mermaids, and they are granted legs to walk around. For you, the potion instead gives you a mermaid tail you can toggle on and off in water, officially unlocking the mermaid form in Moonlight Peaks.

How to Transform into a Mermaid in Moonlight Peaks

To transform into a mermaid whenever you like, on your keyboard, press the Q key to toggle the form you want. The mermaid form is on the lower left circle of the form options. For controllers, this is done by hitting the LB button. Do this near a body of water. With that, you've learned how to transform into a mermaid in Moonlight Peaks.

How to Dive in Water Ripples

Now that you've learned how to transform into a mermaid in Moonlight Peaks, you can now do more things with this form. Obviously, you can now swim around to catch up with Kim, Tae, and the rest of the Hosu family and interact with them more easily. However, a main activity you can do in mermaid form is to dive into the water ripples.

The water ripples are small bubbling circles you can find all over the bodies of water in Moonlight Peaks. Initially, you might think of these as fishing hotspots to increase the chances of getting better loot. But that's not the case. These water ripples act like the spirals you can dig on land.

To dive into the water ripples in Moonlight Peaks, simply press the on your keyboard or the A button on your controller. There will be a prompt that appears once you approach the edge of a water ripple.

Some rewards you can get from diving into water ripples in mermaid form include seashells, trash, blueprints, recipes, and museum artifacts to complete your museum collections.

At this point, you've finally unlocked the mermaid form in Moonlight Peaks. With two forms down, there's only one left you need to unlock. Continue farming and swimming fellow vampire!
