Moonlight Peaks: How to Get Charcoal
Get some good use out of your furnace!
A very important crafting material in the game, Moonlight Peaks gives you multiple ways to find and create Charcoal. Required for smelting and crafting advanced builds later in the game, running out of this resource can slow progression down considerably.
Read on to find out how to always have some Charcoal to hand and begin producing it as early as possible on your farm.
How To Find Charcoal in Moonlight Peaks
One way of getting Charcoal is to randomly dig it up from the sparkly patches on the ground, but a more reliable way is to make it yourself. At the beginning, before unlocking the Furnace, your only option will be to scour the map for these little gold patches on the ground and use your shovel to dig. Unfortunately, Charcoal isn't guaranteed.
How To Unlock The Furnace
As you progress through the game, you'll unlock and complete more and more quests, which will reward you with recipes and items from your neighbours. After you fix the bridge during the "A Bridge Too Far" questline, Ridge will send you a letter teaching you how to craft a Furnace. To craft the Furnace at your Workbench, you'll need x15 Copper Ore and x5 Refined Stone.
How To Craft Charcoal
Once your Furnace is made and placed, you'll be able to make as much Charcoal as you want, and all you'll need is Wood. You get Wood by chopping down the trees in the game, but it should be noted that Light and Dark Wood cannot be turned into Charcoal.
Only Wood from Pine, Beech, Ash and Plum Trees, as well as Blue Willows (and fallen logs), can be used in the Furnace to create Charcoal.
