Mortal Shell 2: How To Beat The Lost Child

Defeat the Lost Child.

Updated 4 min read

Mortal Shell 2 is full to the brim with nightmarish creatures dying to rip you apart, but in a straight beauty contest, the Lost Child might just be the prime contender for last place.

This ugly brute is one of the bosses you'll need to beat to close off some loose ends in the Stonebled corruption gate. But fair warning, this is far from child's play. This is a brutal fight.

Where Is The Lost Child?

To find the Lost Child, you will need to pass through the Stonebled Gate, which will take you through the Sanguine Caverns. You will need to beat the Tarblighted Stoner boss before you gain access to this boss.

How To Prepare

To prepare for this fight, we will assume that you have access to most items within Fainweild, as well as some from the path leading to Magdalena's boss fight. With that in mind, this is what we would suggest.

Level: 15+

Shell: Tiel or Smert

Weapon: Iconoclast/Axe & Dagger

Sidearm: Naylshotte/Forgotten Crossbow

Seal: Vatra's Seal

Useful Tarstones: Bulwark Stone, Auspicious Stone, Grudge Stone, Rupturing Stone

I would personally suggest either Tiel or Smert for this fight. The first half of the fight is pretty trivial, but when the Lost Child starts doing their bite attacks, it's helpful to have a character that can either phase out of sight, or stop time entirely to reposition, or get a critical attack in.

Alongside that, I would recommend weapons and sidearms that require no big charge or wind-up to attack. Combined with Tarstones that mainly focus on bolstering your defense, criticals, and attack power.

How To Beat The Lost Child

The Lost Child will usually begin their fight with an unblockable jumping slam. Try to wait for the moment of impact and dodge out of the way to stay close and get a few early attacks in.

They will often follow this up with a swiping attack with the arm closest to the side you're attacking him. This is tricky to dodge, but can be parried quite consistently. So try to parry, and raise their break bar in the process.

The only thing I would say here is that sometimes this swipe will miss entirely, meaning you won't get an instant restore of your harden bar. If this happens, back off just in case they attack again straight after.

During this portion of the fight, they will also often back off from the player, turn their back, and for a lack of a better term, projectile poop at the player. This is easily avoided if you pick a direction and spam dodge until they stop.

Eventually the big guy will also gear up for a bad breath attack. Sucking in air, before letting out a potent gust as they move to point at the player. This looks dangerous, but if you get behind the boss during their inhale, you can easily stay out of the blast zone, and even get a few hits in.

This about sums up the first phase. It's a pretty trivial opening half of the fight, provided you aren't too greedy. He does have a ridiculously padded health bar, so be patient and make the most of the windows of opportunity as they come.

After you get the boss down to 50% health, that's when they start feeling like an actual challenge. They gain access to a move where they will bite at you, throw you into the air, catch you in their mouth, and usually chew until you're cast out of your shell. It's not all that obviously telegraphed, so it's best to just stay away from their mouth entirely if possible and attack from the back and sides.

The boss also has a very annoying attack in this phase where they will chomp at the player with 3-4 bites. They can't really be consistently blocked or parried, or dodged. So it's best to just back off and avoid engaging as they do this. Get some ranged shots off if you have the space to do so.

This about sums up the fight. To boil it down. It's about getting behind them consistently to land attacks, avoiding their unblockable heavy attacks, and picking your moments very carefully during the closing stages. If you can do that, victory will be yours.
