Updated 7 min read

Palworld 1.0 is officially here! The critically acclaimed monster-catching sandbox has left Early Access as of 10th July, 2026. Palworld's launch update is now live ... and it's absolutely massive. Check out the Official Launch Trailer - it's definitely worth the watch. With a whopping 40 pages forming the Patch Notes, the 10,000-word count is enough to send anyone's head into a spiral - so we've curated a list that summarises the top 10 things that you need to know about Palworld's newest update.

72 New Pals

Yes, you read that correctly. Palworld is increasing its number of Pals to an eye-watering 287, meaning that you'll never run out of friendly, or not-so-friendly, companions to catch and add to your coveted Paldeck. The new pals are spread across the Palpagos Islands, with multiple new and exclusive locations that are often the only place that some new pals will appear. From soaring dragons to peaceful water mammals and cutesy grass pals to chaotic devilish pals, there is a huge variety of new pals to get your teeth stuck into.

Sunreach - New Area

Players definitely weren't expecting to soar high in the skies above Palpagos and suddenly whack their head on a big lump of earth. Sunreach is a huge new area that features a set of floating islands kept aloft by the power of Paldium. Of course, there are new Pals, new tower bosses, new ores, and a unique civilization that definitely won't spell anything bad for lost, naive adventurers. There is sure to be a plethora of ominous ongoings and mysteries to unravel in the heavens above; I can't wait to start exploring Sunreach.

World Tree - New Area

Most Palworld enthusiasts knew this one was coming. The long-awaited World Tree is finally opening its roots to us, gifting players with unique opportunities to find special Pals, resources, and never-before-seen existential threats that definitely do not need to be dealt with. The Patch Notes tease that the key to the story of Palworld is the World Tree, once again emphasising its importance. It is rumoured that players will find their most difficult challenges lying in wait within.

Significant Story Rework

As a further incentive for more seasoned players to restart their save, Palworld 1.0 features a redesigned story experience. The narrative now connects more naturally with the implementation of the precious World Tree that looms over Palpagos. A once fragmented story with information dotted around sporadically is now reimagined to form an engaging experience that redefines the mystical universe of Palworld. I'm personally very excited to see what they've changed, and I can't wait to play through the new main missions.

Major Combat Changes

Players have been very excited to see the combat changes in action. The most notable change is the addition of a dash that replaces the dodge action while you are attacking or aiming. While allowing for more fluid interactions, the dash action maintains the fast-paced combat experience and feels more realistic.

Players can now continue to reload while dodging and also adjust their movement direction during the roll animation, leading to more intuitive strategies and space for greater skill expression. The combat system is subject to a number of reworks that improve responsiveness and control across movement and weapon handling, which are sure to elevate adrenaline-filled encounters.

Revamped Tower Bosses

Now we know why the combat system has been overhauled ... deadly bosses. Tower Bosses are enjoying new motions and skills in the newest update, which will require the player to employ a wider array of strategies to achieve victory when compared to their previous iterations.

Don't forget to enjoy their revamped tower designs that showcase unique aesthetics relating to the treacherous threat that lies within, accompanied by all-new boss battle soundtracks. You can keep an eye on MethodIndie for upcoming Boss Battle Guides.

13 New Weapons

But never fear, your new and improved strategy could simply be an upgraded arsenal. You might not have to think too heavily on your feet, courtesy of the intense firepower that 13 brand new weapons provide:

  • Mechanical Bow · A bow crafted using Soralite Ingots. Greatly improved projectile velocity and penetration allow for highly accurate long-range shots.
  • Combat SMG · A submachine gun made using Soralite Ingots. An improved magazine and enhanced ammunition provide superior suppressive fire.
  • Prototype Shotgun · A shotgun crafted using Soralite Ingots. Delivers overwhelming firepower at close range, while a specialized magazine improves sustained combat performance.
  • Heavy Assault Rifle ·An assault rifle crafted using Soralite Ingots. Maintains its versatility while being upgraded to fire more powerful ammunition.
  • Tactical Grenade Launcher · A grenade launcher crafted using Soralite Ingots. Improved projectile stability enables precise bombardment at long range.
  • Laser Sword · A beam sword crafted using Soralite Ingots. A melee weapon that instantly cuts through targets with its high-output energy blade.
  • Beam Scatter · A beam weapon specialized for close-quarters combat. Fires compressed energy in the form of a wide scatter beam.
  • Drone Launcher · A launcher that deploys autonomous combat drones. Can deploy up to nine drones simultaneously, providing sustained battlefield suppression.
  • Plasma Rifle · A rifle that releases electrical arcs from the point of impact, chaining between multiple enemies.
  • Beam Launcher · A launcher that fires a high-density energy beam, triggering a large-area explosion. Be careful not to overheat it during sustained fire.
  • Primitive Sword · A melee weapon intended for early-game close-quarters combat.
  • Metal Bat · A bat that becomes available in the mid-game and beyond.
  • Enhanced Lily's Spear · An enhanced version of Lily's beloved spear. A melee weapon intended for late-game use.

In addition to these grand-spanking new weapons to destroy your foes with, players can also enjoy crafting the Extra Weapon Holster, which increases the number of weapons you can have equipped to SIX. I know we're supposed to use Pals to help us in combat, but with 6 weapons to swap between, we might not need their help ...

Wildlife Sanctuary Overhaul

Players might remember the small islands that previously housed the Wildlife Sanctuaries. Be prepared for a completely reimagined experience. Three sanctuaries boast their own unique aesthetic, along with a specialised environment that makes each feel completely different.

However, the provision of exclusive opportunities to obtain new Pals and resources never welcomes you with open arms. Expect to face immense danger as defense drones created by an ancient civilisation comb the land, looking to eliminate ill-prepared intruders in the protection of the sacred Wildlife Sanctuary.

New Offshore Base Building

Palworld wouldn't be Palworld without the chance to build a luscious base to be proud of and call your own. Pocketpair has blessed players with the Aquatic Construction Kit, which unlocks base building along shorelines and at sea, a popular feature requested by fans.

But that's not all. Players can expect to see a wide variety of new roof variations, faux greenery, and ancient-civilisation base structures that usher in a new aesthetic. There are so many new customisation options to play around with, so I don't want to see your Pals having to make do with a dirty straw bed in the dirt.

Overhauled Pal Skills

In what seems like one of the biggest overhauls in the newest update, Pals can enjoy a whole host of changes that enhance their combat prowess and base efficiency. Pal Active Skills have been completely rebalanced, with many new Active Skills being added.

Additionally, new characteristics have been added to Pal Passive Skills, including World Tree Passive Skills that feature extremely powerful effects in exchange for a negative trait. Awakening and Mutation are two additional Pal mechanics that allow you to enhance their abilities further by obtaining later-game materials or through rare breeding chances.

But we're not finished yet, as Pal Partner Skills are also subject to a huge rework that sees over 200 skills changed and more additions made to the roster. Some Pals no longer need specific gear to obtain access to their Partner Skill. For example, glider-enhancing Pals and Pals that follow up on the player's attacks will provide these benefits immediately upon catching them. And FINALLY, Pal follow-up damage no longer finishes off a Pal, meaning that you shouldn't have problems with a pesky sidekick who stops you from catching new friends.

Overall, there is truly an insane amount of changes. Pocketpair has really outdone themselves with the sheer size and complexity of this update; it's abundantly clear that Palworld is no longer in Early Access. I can't wait to dive into the action!
