Final Fantasy Resonance: How to Beat and Unlock Sephiroth
The One-Winged Angel himself joins the party!
Final Fantasy Resonance brings back many classic elements that built the franchise: turn-based combat, 2D pixel visuals, and more. However, what makes this title stand out is its addition of Visions, a unique feature added to the combat that brings popular characters from other Final Fantasy games to aid you in battle.
These Visions not only bring Heroes from other worlds, but also the popular antagonists that made them, such as Sephiroth. While most Visions are unlocked through simply interacting with a Sanctum of Light, for this one you will have to fight and defeat Sephiroth for him to join. In this guide, we'll show you where you can find the Sanctum and how you can defeat and obtain Sephiroth as a Vision.
Warning: Minor spoilers for Final Fantasy Resonance Chapter 5 ahead.
Where to Find Sephiroth's Sanctum
First, to even attempt to get into Sephiroth's Sanctum, you will need to have reached Chapter 5 of the story, where you will unlock the Airship as a transportation method. You will automatically unlock the airship at the start of the Chapter.
If you have that airship, then head to the Kingdom of Grandshelt. In between the desert and woodland areas to the north, you will find Whirlpool Hollow on the sea below. Land the airship there to enter the hidden Sanctum. Once inside, interact with the crystal to accept Sephiroth's challenge to a battle.
How to Defeat Sephiroth
Sephiroth is Level 45, but we recommend that you are at least 50-55 for this battle. Even by lowering the difficulty to the easiest presents a challenge.
Prepare with your best equipment and support items like Potions, Phoenix Down, and Mists. As for the party members, you want to focus on Physical and Light damage, so Fina and the Warrior of Light are a must on this Squad.
For the first phase of the fight, focus first on buffing your party. In this phase, Sephiroth will cast Masamune in Waiting, which will negate all physical damage. Here, use some spells while he prepares for his second phase, One-Winged Angel.
Note: Remember to use those Espers with Fina! Carbuncle for example will be a great help with support abilities.
Once in the second phase, he will start using abilities that can lower the party's HP to 1. Use Fina's healing spells or big healing items to get that HP back up. After these strong attacks, he will add a random element to his abilities.
Use the typical inverse of the element to counter, for example, Ice-Fire, Water-Lightning, Wind-Earth.
In his last phase, Sephiroth will cast an ability called Divine Proclamation, which prepares him for an instant-kill attack, Meteor.
You will have to beat him before he casts this ability; however, this time he has a weakness to Light. Use your Light attacks to stagger and beat him before Meteor.
Sephiroth's Role
Role: Commando
Element: Dark, Fire, Ice, Lightning
Resonance: True Octaslash - Deal non-elemental physical damage to all enemies.
World: Final Fantasy VII
Sephiroth combines well as a Vision for Fina, since he brings elements she lacks, such as darkness, to Fina's Light. Sephiroth also brings some healing abilities, such as One-Winged Angel, which restores 5% of max HP and 3% of max MP every turn. Additionally, his Meteor ability is a must against enemies that require multi-hit attacks.
