Mistfall Hunter: How to Get Messenger Bug Jars
What's that buzzing sound?
Mistfall Hunter can become quite confusing with the endless number of items to pick up, from consumables to merchant valuables and camp construction materials. It's definitely not easy to keep track of what materials you need, especially in the heat of battle.
Materials have different rarities that are accompanied by a range of different spawn rates, which can sometimes make camp upgrading difficult and incredibly tedious depending on where you explore. However, most camp construction materials are purchasable from the Auction House when other players list their excess items for extra cash, which increases your base upgrade speed tenfold.
One camp construction material that is causing quite a stir is the Messenger Bug Jar, and there's a pretty annoying reason why. So here's why you might be having trouble grabbing Messenger Bug Jars and how you can maximise your chances at grabbing the elusive material.
What are Messenger Bug Jars Used For?
There are lots of buildings and features to upgrade in the Mistfall Hunter base camp, each requiring a unique set of construction materials. The Gyldenblod Pool requires a Messenger Bug Jar to upgrade it to level 6, with future upgrades for various buildings likely dipping into the same jar.
Essentially, the further you progress, the more likely you are to need Messenger Bug Jars due to their legendary status.
How to Get Messenger Bug Jars
Auction House Listing
The reason Messenger Bug Jars might seem more difficult to obtain is that they were initially perceived as a bug with the Auction House. However, upon progressing further, it's obvious that some camp construction materials simply cannot be sold or bought in the Auction House. Referring to the picture above, you'll see that the Messenger Bug Jar is greyed out, alongside some other legendary construction materials.
Unfortunately, Messenger Bug Jars cannot be listed in the Auction House, meaning that each player has to obtain them organically and through normal gameplay loops - instantly skyrocketing the rarity of this notorious camp construction material.
Scavenger Expedition Rewards
Messenger Bug Jars can be obtained from higher-level expeditions by Twig and his Scavenger Squad. However, the upgrade requirements to unlock these missions are pretty expensive and time-consuming.
Normal Exploration
You're better off just sucking it up and trekking out into the unknown. According to the Messenger Bug Jar's item description, they are obtainable from the Hallowgrove region.
More specifically, the Divine Anchor area in the middle of the map, which coincidentally also houses the Mist Lord portal and the Frostwind Path region to the east.
It is advised to look for lootable items that are more biological and rooted in nature, such as egg nests and jars of green gloop.
Unfortunately, there's no secret hack to obtaining Messenger Bug Jars except for exploring in these regions, but I was able to obtain a jar pretty quickly after a couple of runs in the Frostwind Path. I wish you the same amount of luck, hunter.
May you send many a message with your bug in a jar.
