Moonlighter 2: How to Unlock Howling Harbor in Aeolia & Get the Ray Axe

The final region awaits!

Updated 3 min read

In Moonlighter 2, there are three worlds in total, each of which has two possible locations to do a run for relics. However, not all of these worlds and locations will unlock automatically. When it comes to the third world, Aeolia, the Howling Harbor region in particular can be rather puzzling to unlock if you're not sure where to look.

Luckily, if you're wondering how to unlock Aeolia's Howling Harbor in Moonlighter 2, as well as obtain a weapon related to this process called the Ray Axe, then this guide will walk you through everything you need to know.

How to Unlock Howling Harbor in the Aeolia World

Howling Harbor is the final location that you can unlock in Moonlighter 2, but there are some prerequisites. Specifically, you need to have already unlocked Julien as a merchant at Tresna. This can be done by finding the mysterious portal at the bottom section of town and paying 500 Gold to free Julien from the other side. After this, he will join Tresna as a permanent resident and upon up his store, allowing you to buy patches for passive buffs on your runs.

Julien mentions that after being in Aeolia he has had a mysterious spell cast upon him, where his body is taken over at night. Next, you need to complete one run of Aeolia's Zephyr Fields location, including defeating the end boss, Senda. He will also give you the recipe for the Aetherium Heart, which can be used to free Masa from his cage in Treasury Halls.

After this has been complete, then you need to return and speak to Julien again during the daytime, which will grant the Souls Forever Lost II quest. At this moment, Julien explains that he can still feel another presence taking over his head, other than Senda. He believes it to be Senda's brother, Monte, and will task you with now defeating this boss at Howling Harbor.

The Howling Harbor region in Aeolia will now unlock, enabling you to go on relic runs in this location.

Monte can be quite a difficult boss to beat, so it's important that you stack as many combat perks as possible during your run to help take him down.

It's also a good idea to pick a weapon that you have upgraded once or twice, or otherwise find yourself to be proficient with, depending on your playstyle. You'll also need to navigate arena hazards and use ziplines to secure victory, so come prepared.

How to Get the Ray Axe Weapon in Moonlighter 2

After you defeat Monte, return to Julien and speak to him during the day and he will give you the recipe for the Ray Axe as a reward. The Ray Axe is a Short Sword weapon that enables you to perform a Special Finisher after your Finisher attack, dealing +20% damage.

You can then head over to Andrei's forge and have the weapon crafted for at the expense of some gold. You'll also need a material known as The King's Right Mask, but this is dropped by Monte specifically, and you're good to go since you've already defeated him.
