Moonlighter 2: How to Beat Thalaam

Each of Moonlighter 2's three worlds has two different zones that you can progress through when you set out on a run to collect Relics for your shop. Each of these zones has a final boss that you will need to defeat in order to return home safely and sell your Relics at the highest value. With six different bosses in total, learning the attack types and patterns that each one utilizes is key to consistently achieving compelte runs.

One of these six bosses is Thalaam, who acts as the final barrier before completing Kalina's Night zone. He has a series of very aggressive attacks and can be a real pain to overcome if you don't know what to expect. Luckily, if you're wondering how to defeat Thalaam in Moonlighter 2, then this guide can walk you through the process.

How to Beat Thalaam in Moonlighter 2

Thalaam is the end boss for Kalina's Night area, and the final barrier between getting your Relics back to your shop in one piece. He uses a range of explosive attacks - both literally with fire, and in aggressive physical moves and dashes.

This includes fiery shockwaves, explosive projectiles, a spinning dash that leaves a damaging trail of fire behind, and a jump slam that fires a huge flurry of fire bombs in a large AOE, leaving you with little room to dodge freely. Lastly, he has a fire laser that can track your movements, so you'll need to stay on the run constantly when Thalaam pulls this attack on you.

Thalaam Boss Fight Threats

• Mobility that also attacks, dealing solid damage against you - rolling dash, ground slam.
• Explosive fire projectiles that can take up much room of the arena.
• Can leave temporary trails of fire behind that make it tricky to get into close-range and deal hits without taking damage.
• Tracking fire beam that you'll need to stay ahead of.
• The combination of these attacks means you'll need to stay highly mobile throughout this fight.

The best approach you can take when you know you'll be going up against Thalaam at the end of your run is to stack as many melee weapon effects as possible throughout your run. Effects such as Foam and Hex, in particular, are highly beneficial to this fight, as they can deal just enough damage to keep chipping away at Thalaam's health while you reposition with dodge and look for your next attack opening. It may seem like just a little bonus damage, but trust me, it truly does make all the difference.

Thalaam Boss Fight Progressions / Phases

Thalaam will start the fight with some aggressive pounces and soon break into some dashes from one side of the arena to the other. Make sure you dodge them (as they inflict damage on contact) and use this starting opportunity to learn the timings for these attacks, as they get much more intense as you progress through the fight.

Once you damage Thalaam enough, he will let out an explosive shockwave which you will again need to dodge, before burrowing underground. When he pops back up, he will deploy a shield around himself and begin tossing out explosives.

The purple explosives can be damaged and deflected back at Thalaam to break his shield. You will need to spam attack one for a few hits, and then line up the shot, and press the pompted button on-screen to remove one of the shield charges, indicated above Thalaam's HP bar. You'll still need to be careful to dodge regular explosives, though!

Once you've taken down the shield, Thalaam will resume his normal attacks, but will step up the intensity. His dash now leaves a trail of fire, and he will now hurl both fire projectiles and AOE attacks, restrict your dodge pathing and cause you to readjust as you weave in and out of your attacks. You can use your gun, when possible, to work in a few long-ranged shots when the likes of his fire trails make it hard to close the distance.

Once you wither away the next stage of health, Thalaam will burrow once again and bring his shield back. You need to do the same method to break it, but it will be much trickier this time.

Additional fiery shockwaves will be detonated from his thrown explosives, so you will need to time dodges while also trying to strike the purple bombs enough times to detonate them, line them up, and shoot them back at Thalaam.

Following the destruction of his second shield, Thalaam will enter his most aggressive state, and begin using overwhelming AOE explosives, as well as his fiery dash, slam, and fire projectiles.

This is where the fight is at its most hectic, so prioritize your dodges and be patient enough to wait for an opening for each melee combo. Otherwise, if you end up accidentally taking multiple hits, the damage can stack up quick and take you out of a battle for good just moments before victory.

With enough patience (and bonus effects from your weapons) you'll be able you'll eventually be able to knock his HP down to zero and defeat Thalaam. While it a very full-on fight, the key is not to panic. To find a clear dodge path, and stay fluid. Don't stop and shoot your gun or execute a combo, instead shoot while you're on the run and hit drive by combos in the small windows his attack animations offer.

Thalaam Rewards & Loot

After defeating Thalaam, you will gain two chests of randomized relics. Be sure to swap out any of your backpack contents for rarer and more expensive Relics at this opportunity, if there is one to do so.

In addition to the general loot, defeating Thalaam also rewards the player with a special material known as an Alabaster Candle.

Special boss drops such as this often have very handy uses, such as being used to create new weapons at the forge once you have unlocked the required recipe. These recipes are usually unlocked either from interacting with characters and completing side quests, or by random chance during your nighttime dungeon runs.
