Tyke boss in Moonlighter 2

Moonlighter 2: How to Beat Tyke

Time to defeat the Security Chief.

5 min read

Moonlighter 2 has six bosses in total that appear at the end of your runs, depending on which world and area you choose to explore. Each world has two different areas to unlock and choose from, and each area has a specific boss, meaning once you've encountered them for the first time, you will always know who you're going up against.

The tricky part is actually defeating these bosses. Each one has a different series of attack patterns and types, as well as various environmental/arena hazards you may need to keep an eye out for. Tyke is the second boss within The Gallery, available at the end of Treasury Halls. If you're looking to take down Tyke in Moonlighter 2, then look no further; this guide has all of the information you'll need to overcome him and return home safely with your Relics.

How to Beat Tyke in Moonlighter 2

Tyke uses attacks that cause a lot of AOE effects across the arena, and he has the ability to summon additional enemies throughout the fight, meaning you will need to dodge and attack more than one threat at once.

In addition to this, Tyke also uses other threats that have quite a wide hitbox against your character or a large area of effect, including large shockwaves you need to roll over, clusters of AOE explosives, and terrain that breaks into multiple small pieces that you'll need to jump around in order to reach certain attacks and deflect them back at Tyke.

Tyke Boss Fight Threats

  • Electric AOE terrain threats
  • Summoning additional enemies
  • Electric shockwaves
  • Glide/fly ability while dropping circular AOE explosives
  • Summon portals with laser beams
  • Arena terrain that breaks apart, meaning you'll need to dodge roll across gaps.

The Rectifier Weapon

There is actually a weapon that is designed specifically for the Tyke fight called the Rectifier, but you won't be able to use it the first time around. The Rectifier is a spear that can be obtained from Babel.

First, you'll need to complete "The Jail of the Lustrous" quest by defeating The Curator, the end boss at The Gallery's Exhibition Wing. Then, return and talk to Babel, and he'll give you the recipe unlock for The Rectifier. However, in order to actually craft it, you'll need to obtain 1x Broken Rocket, a material that can only be gained by defeating Tyke.

So, although you won't be able to use the Rectifier with Tyke the first time you defeat him, it is worth keeping in mind as your weapon of choice if you plan to grind Treasury Halls in repetition for specific relics.

Tyke Boss Fight Progressions / Phases

Tyke will start the fight rather aggressively by summoning additional Treasury Halls enemies and deploying a range of AOE electrical beam blasts that cover a quarter of the arena terrain at a time. Dodge out of the way, use your melee weapon to take down the additional enemies as quick as possible, and use your gun to fire shots at Tyke in between your melee combos.

After this, Tyke will send out some electric shockwaves. These are easy to time your dash-roll with, so just roll over them. The bigger threat is when he flies into the sky and uses a glide dash across the arena, firing explosive AOE blasts down below in the path of his dash. During these moments, stay away from Tyke and use your gun to apply damage.

Next, Tyke will open up a portal and shoot his laser beam through it. Keep an eye out, though, as the beam through the exit of the portal will move around the arena in a sweeping motion. Once you've managed to chip away enough of his health, Tyke will enter a protective barrier and begin launching giant spheres at you. You need to time the prompted button input to deflect these spheres back at him, destorying the shield.

After destroying the shield, Tyke will repeat the same attack patterns listed above. Continue using your melee weapon to damage him when he's on the ground, and using your gun to damage him when he takes flight.

Eventually, Tyke will now split the arena into four sections and repeat the shield and sphere section of the fight. This time, the first attack will be aimed at you, but when you deflect it, he will deflect it back at another section of terrain. You need to time your dodge-roll to jump across the gap to the targeted zone and once again send it right back at him.

These four sections will then join together, and you will continue the next phase of the fight up in the sky, using his shockwaves and AOE explosives. Lastly, he will shrink the arena into one tiny sized platform that you will be left standing on, and then split the rest of the arena into nine sections in total.

You will need to be more careful with your dodge-rolls here, as these smaller sections are easier to fall off, especially when you're chasing the explosive spheres to damage Tyke. This time, as you deflect the attacks back at Tyke, he will remove several of these sections, indicated in purple. You will need to move across each section to a safety point before it is removed, until you are standing on the last one.

Once this phase is complete, Tyke should be on fairly low damage, so this is when I'd recommend diving in with full aggression and immediately following up with melee combos. Even if you get a bit damaged in the process, you should be able to secure the final hit and defeat Tyke once and for all.

Tyke Rewards & Loot

Defeating Tyke will reward you with two chests full of randomized relics. At this point, take any valuable ones that are worth replacing what you have in your backpack, and make use of any that can cast or remove armor and Overcharged on the valuable relics you already have.

Aside from that, you will also gain 1x Broken Rocket, a special material that can only be claimed from Tyke. Materials such as this are used to craft different weapons for your future runs. This material in particular can be used to finally craft the Rectifier spear, a weapon designed for battling Tyke. You should try it out next time you decide to do a run through Treasury Halls!
