Moonlighter 2: How to Unlock Julien as a Merchant & Get Patches
Gotta Patch 'em all!
In Moonlighter 2, patches are very handy items that can be purchased from the merchant known as Julien. Each patch offers a passive effect that can come in handy for your relic-hunting runs, from bonus attack power or incoming damage reduction to bonuses for your relics.
However, patches won't be available from the very beginning. Instead, you'll need to meet some milestones and complete an interaction in order to unlock the merchant who sells them, Julien. Luckily, this guide covers how to unlock Julien the patch merchant in Moonlighter 2, as well as all patches in the game and their effects.
How to Unlock Julien the Patch Merchant in Moonlighter 2
To unlock Julien in Moonlighter 2 and gain access to the patches feature, you will need to complete the Endless Vault II quest. In order to complete this quest, you will need to accumulate 50,000 Gold in total from selling relics at your shop, but you can manage this in just a few runs, so long as you make it far enough to increase the value of your relics and grab a few rare ones.
After completing this challenge, a portal will open up at the bottom section of town. Interact with the portal, and you will discover someone trapped on the other side. However, they require 500 Gold in order to be freed from the poral. Once you have the money, go ahead and pay, and Julien will pop out the other side of the portal, reconnecting with Will and setting up his new shop, Le Pachelier.
From this moment onwards, Julien will be available in town as a merchant at this same location, letting you purchase and upgrade patches for various passive effects during your run. Oddly enough, something odd appears to have happened to Julien since the last time you've seen him. During the day, he operates as normal, but during the night, his body will float in the air, with something else having taken over him - thankfully, this doesn't stop you from using his shop at nightfall, though!
All Patches & Their Effects in Moonlighter 2
There are 13 unlockable patches total in Moonlighter 2. Four of them can be purchased as soon as you unlock Julien, and others are unlocked by progressing further through the game. Will has two patch slots on his backpack, enabling you to equip a combination of any two from the options you have unlocked.
Each patch is also upgradeable at the cost of additional money and materials. Listed below are just the base forms for each patch. For example, after an upgrade, Strain Slash increases from +20% damage to +25% damage. When you have spare cash, it can be a good idea to upgrade the patches you find most valuable to your playstyle, as the passives can actually make quite the difference in the long run.

- Twinkle Token: Relics are found with +5 value.
- Goopy Gazer: Guns have +20% bullets.
- Strain Slash: While your gun ammo is not full, increase your attack damage 20%.
- Tough Trader: Take 15% less damage.
