Palworld: How to Farm Crude Oil & Best Crude Oil Base Locations

As you load into the beautiful green fields of Palworld's Palpagos Islands, Crude Oil is probably the last thing on your mind - its prospect might seem quite improbable among the innocent Cattiva, Chipiki, and Lamball. But as you traverse Palworld's lands, face treacherous threats, and advance your technology, the ominous Oil Rigs looming in the distance draw ever closer.

Crude Oil instils itself as a crucial resource later on in your progression, with many crafting recipes depending on its stockpile, from important ingots to buildings and items. So here is everything that you need to know about Crude Oil, including the best farming methods.

How to Find Crude Oil in Palworld

Fortunately, there are a few methods of obtaining Crude Oil without exerting the effort and major expense of setting up a proper farm: Specific Expeditions, Oil Rigs, Pal Drops, and Crude Oil Extractors.

Expeditions Can Yield Crude Oil

After constructing the Pal Expedition Station, you'll gain the ability to send your inactive Pals on long journeys to gather resources for your base. There are no negative points to consider when deploying expeditions; make sure to always have a mission in progress for free rewards.

Two specific expeditions have a chance to yield Crude Oil as one of their rewards:

• Celestial Sakura Cavern
• Dark Cave of Feybreak

These expeditions are classified as high risk, and only become available after defeating their respective Tower Bosses on Sakurajima Island and Feybreak Island. While expeditions aren't too effective at accruing Crude Oil, they can be a great method to acquire it early on, before you set up a dedicated source.

Oil Rigs

Palworld currently has 3 Oil Rigs for you to find, invade, and plunder for all they're worth. The map above pictures two Oil Rig locations in the top-right, and the most dangerous one in the bottom left.

Rayne Syndicate Test Drilling Rig (161, -277)

As the easiest and lowest-level Oil Rig, the Rayne Syndicate Test Drilling Rig is definitely the first Crude Oil-rich structure that you're likely to see in your Palworld journey. Clocking in at level 30, it's usually a better idea to skip the rig upon your first sighting, as most players who have followed the main mission storyline are underlevelled upon first arrival.

You'll need a strong swimming or flying Pal to trek over to the rig, and preferably a full party of battle-ready Pals to clash against the Syndicate thugs, who also happen to be wielding assault rifles, grenade launchers, and miniguns. Enemies have a chance to drop Crude Oil, along with chests that are hidden across the oil rig; but your primary target to locate is the main chest.

It's usually inside a tent away from the main building, and can be easily distinguished by the glaring lights on the front of the chest. This special chest contains the primary share of loot, and can gift you with around 50 Crude Oil - which is a huge amount to get you started.

Rayne Syndicate Oil Rig (581, -431)

Moving on to the second Rig in terms of difficulty, this structure is further out in the ocean, so you'll 100% need a strong swimming or flying mount, else you run out of stamina and be met with a mouthful of seawater. However, be careful of the new weapons that this rig comes equipped with, as you'll be laser-beamed if you fly too high in the sky - make sure you stay on the waterline with your flying mount.

Rayne Syndicate Platform Oil Rig (-1730, -1452)

As the most powerful and high-levelled Oil Rig situated in the bottom right of the map, you'll find major firepower that packs significant heat. It's essential that you gear up and come equipped with some juiced-up Pals if you want to stand even the slightest chance. Unfortunately, close to a hundred level 60 enemies, bloodthirsty enemy Pals, and around 20 turrets isn't the sweetest recipe for success.

You'll usually find the main chest on the lower level of the rig, inside of a room that many enemies seem to be pouring out of. My best strategy to employ is the 'close my eyes and run' technique; it's worked more times than you would imagine.

Pal Drops

As with most materials in the game, there is ALWAYS a Pal who happens to drop what you're looking for on occasion. This isn't usually the most efficient way to farm Crude Oil, but it's super useful to know what Pals you can quickly eliminate for a quick resource boost. So without further ado, here are the three Pals that have a chance to drop Crude Oil after you defeat them:

Crude Oil Extractors

If you're desperately in need of Crude Oil, the Crude Oil Extractor is your best way of obtaining it - who could have thought?

You'll need to construct one of these on top of an Oil Field; it will set you back 250 Pal Metal Ingots and 50 Circuit Boards, which is a pretty expensive requirement. You'll need a decent amount of Electricity, and Pals to generate Electricity along with it. Do not be fooled, making the transition to later game materials and buildings is no child's play.

Best Crude Oil Farming Locations

Undoubtedly, the best way to quickly accrue Crude Oil is to set up shop in a location that has multiple Oil Fields. Alternatively, you can construct High Pressure Crude Oil Extractors that do not require an Oil Field to produce Crude Oil; however, these are far more expensive to build and sap a far greater supply of electricity. Usually, you don't want more than two Pals tasked with generating electricity to maintain base efficiency.

Here are the two best Crude Oil base locations for you to take advantage of.

Sakurajima Island (-513, 172)

Situated near the huge mushroom swamp at -513, 172, this flat stretch of land is home to two Oil Fields as well as two Coal deposits, an essential resource that you will also need lots of. Construct a base that covers all 4 resource nodes, plonk a Crude Oil Extractor on each hole and watch the results roll in. And yes, the Oil Field does look like a small crack on the floor.

Sunlit Isle (400, -468)

As the absolute best Crude Oil spot in the game, Sunlit Isle features a staggering SIX Oil Fields across the small stretch of island at 400, -468 - meaning you can construct two bases to take full advantage of the incredible yield. If you opt for only one base, then you still have 3 Oil Fields to utilise to their fullest potential.

To sum Crude Oil up, it's a massive pain that requires huge investment and preparation. But once you build a dedicated base for it, you'll have a stockpile in no time.
