Mortal Shell 2: How To Get & Use Blackmarrow Keys

In Mortal Shell 2, there are loads of items, weapons, Tarstones, and other oddities that can be used to buff your character and make them more powerful. However, there is only one item that can be used to make you look more aesthetically pleasing. 

Blackmarrow Keys are well-hidden items that can be used to unlock new shades for your characters, and if you want to know how to find and use them, you've come to the right place. 

What Are Blackmarrow Keys?

As mentioned, Blackmarrow Keys are items found in the various regions of Mortal Shell 2, usually in chests, often within dungeons, that can be used to unlock shades. 

Shades are essentially skins for your respective characters, and these can be changed when at any beacon. If you buy the deluxe edition of the game, you'll have access to the Obsidian and Skeletal shades for your character. But aside from those, all other shells will require a Blackmarrow Key. 

How To Find Blackmarrow Keys 

Blackmarrow Keys are dotted all over the place within Mortal Shell 2, and at the time of writing, they are so well hidden that we haven't found them all just yet. 

However, we can point you in the direction of one that you can get right from the start of the game to get you started. 

If you head to the Training Area of The Marrow Keep, and look for a wall with an insignia on it just left of all the shell coffins. Hit the wall to reveal a secret path, and inside you'll find a smoking pouch that will allow you to 'commune with chaos'. 

Do this, and you'll be transported to the Desolate Keep, a tough dungeon with a Blackmarrow Key waiting for you at the end as a reward. Either fight your way through, or run like hell to grab it before the hordes of enemies swarm you. 

Where To Use Blackmarrow Keys 

Once you have a Blackmarrow Key, you may be at a loss as to what it actually unlocks. 

What you'll want to do is head through the Ovum Spihoning room to the room with the elevator to the roof of Marrow Keep. Along the perimeter of the room, you'll notice a series of chests. 

These can be opened with your Blackmarrow Keys, but only if you have the corresponding Shell unlocked.
