Palworld: How to Get Chromite & Best Farming Locations (1.0)
Chromite can be very time-consuming to find; here are the best farming locations for Chromite.
in Palworld, Chromite is a relatively new and high-level mineral that is instrumental in the crafting of Hexolite, a precious ingot that acts as an essential piece for late-game weapons and items.
If you're craving a Laser Gatling Gun, Plasma Cannon, or Beam Sword, you better sharpen up on your Chromite knowledge. Look no further; here is everything you need to know about Chromite, including the best Chromite farming locations.
How to Get Chromite in Palworld
We all love small cute doggies, especially small cute doggies that find us Chromite. Introducing Smokie, a Dark-type doggie who provides us with a ticket to our precious metal. Smokie has an innate Partner Skill called 'Dig, Dog! Dig!' that allows him to sense and sniff out Chromite with one press of a button. He'll uproot the mineral and place a handy flag on top, which you can mine as usual.
To capture a Smokie for yourself, you will need to head to the south-eastern quadrant of Feybreak Island, as shown in the image above. Smokie is juiced up as a level 55 Alpha Pal, situated in his own domain, which must be entered via an ominous portal. But don't worry if this option seems too difficult; Smokie can also be found prancing around in the northern areas of the island as a normal levelled Pal.
However, you will need to construct Smokie's Harness at the Pal Gear Workbench. If you can't see this accessory after opening the workbench, make sure you have it unlocked at level 58 in the technology tree. The harness has relatively light crafting requirements; Dark Fragments might look somewhat intimidating, but they are easily found on the floor as you explore Feybreak Island.
After you've finished constructing the harness, it will automatically equip to your Smokie without you needing to take any further action - now you can start your Chromite hunt. Upon pressing the Partner Skill button, Smokie will send out a green sonar wave that will detect any Chromite hidden underground in the immediate vicinity.
Alternatively, you can unlock the Metal Detector at the same technology tree. Its crafting requirements are somewhat complex when compared to Smokie's Harness: Plasteel and Computers require a decent amount of base infrastructure and mineral progression that players might accidentally miss out.
During my Palworld experience, the harness was definitely the easier choice, as I wasn't able to construct the Production Assembly Line II until quite later, which the Metal Detector requires.
If you are in a good position and crafting a Metal Detector is easy work for you, it's definitely the better method of Chromite gathering to opt for, as you can activate the item while mounted, which isn't possible with Smokie's Partner Skill.
Best Chromite Farming Locations
Chromite can be found across Feybreak Island in small quantities if you're just scouring the surface, but it's more plentiful in underground locations as a general rule of thumb. As such, the best places to find Chromite are in underground tunnels, boss caves, and dungeons.
There are 5 locations marked with a star on the map of Feybreak Island above; we'll start with the easiest options and end with the more difficult ones. I've pictured the entrance of each location to provide you with an idea of what you're looking for, instead of just numbers.
Crystalized Tunnel (-916, -1321)
Beginning with the south-eastern star at -916, -1321, you'll find the Crystalized Tunnel on ground level in a yellow forest. There's no need to worry about a boss at the end of the tunnel, only an Ancient Ruin with a pesky puzzle to test your intellect, making this Chromite Cave one of the easiest options. Whip out your Smokie or Metal Detector and go crazy.
Dark Flame Tunnel (-1050, -1202)
Similar to the previous location, you'll only need to overcome an Ancient Ruin at the end of the tunnel, in lieu of a boss. The Dark Flame Tunnel at -1050, -1202 can be found on a higher level, and somewhat hidden behind red trees in a big forest. Snap up this location as another easy Chromite option.
Bloodstained Tunnel (-1205, -1389)
The Bloodstained Tunnel can be found at -1205, -1389 on an elevated level of the basin. You might find some enemies outside of the tunnel, and you mightttt need to be careful of flying too high up, lest you be shot down by a missile launcher in the distance. But once again, this is another easy Chromite option as you'll only find an Ancient Ruin at the end of the hallway. Be prepared for an aggressive Pal to spawn in defense of the high-tech terminal, though its difficulty is minimal when compared to Alpha Pals.
Shield Dragon Tunnel (-960, -981)
Moving on to the challenging caves, you'll find a majestic level 62 Silvegis at the end of the Shield Dragon Tunnel, -960, -981. This Pal is incredibly hard to defeat and will require higher-level Pal Spheres for a successful capture. The tunnel location is very close to a fast travel point; the entrance is situated on a slightly elevated mound on the ground floor. You'll usually find this Chromite Cave to be more time-consuming, and it should be last on your list to farm, unless you're insanely powerful.
Gnaw Bounty Chromite Cave (-726, -1032)
On to the final location, this cave is reasonably easier than the previous fight against Silvegis. At the end of the tunnel at -726, -1032, you'll find a trio of wanted targets, including level 58 Gnaw. Make your way to the main cave area, and activate your Chromite sniffing abilities before proceeding to mine the inconspicuous mounds of minerals that suddenly appear before you.
I bid you the best of luck on your Chromite hunt- oh, one more thing. The Arrogant Pal Critic's side mission also grants you additional Chromite to add to your stash; all you have to do is show him the specific Pals that he's demanding to see.
