Moonlighter 2: How To Beat Herald

Just when you thought the heatwave was over...

Updated 2 min read

Moonlighter 2, much like its much-beloved original 2D outing, has you face off against a whole bunch of tough enemies, some even of the tough boss variety.

The first you'll come up against is Herald, the boss of the Desert region. He's a tricky fight, especially if you have had a testing run to get to the boss fight. But hopefully, with this guide, you'll be able to navigate this boss battle and get the rewards for a fight well fought.

How To Get to Herald & Preparation

To get to Herald, players will need to get to the very end of the Desert Day Region progression ladder.

To prepare for this fight, we would suggest you focus on getting the following upgrades:

  • Extra Potion
  • Onsen Room
  • Max Health X2
  • Potion Healing X2

Plus, during your run to the boss, we would suggest prioritizing Would, Ignite, and Foam upgrade nodes to make sure you're as powerful as possible before reaching the boss room.

How To Beat Herald

The Herald fight is one where you need to be on your toes but also use the environment to your advantage.

The boss will begin by launching out some purple bombs, which can be backpack-slapped back in their direction. You'll need to do this five times to break down their shield.

In the meantime, the boss will use ground pulse attacks, which need to be rolled through, and a laser beam attack that can be rolled through or avoided by hiding behind the two blockades in the middle of the arena.

The key here is to only hit the bombs when you aren't putting yourself in a compromising spot. It's tough to roll through attacks and hit bombs, so only try this if you're confident you can avoid taking a hit.

As the fight goes on, they will take away the blockades in the middle of the arena and will also spawn minions to break up the fight. So, make sure you ace the opening stages, as the fight only gets more tense as time goes on.

Get through the third stage where there are no blockades on screen, and this will signal the end of the fight, and sweet, sweet victory.

Rewards For Beating Herald

As a reward for completing this fight, you will gain access to two chests, one usually containing an epic relic.

Plus, you will gain The Sound of Hubris. A material that can be used to complete an early quest with Andrei and craft the Everlasting Fury - a decent early-game weapon that will make fighting tougher enemies a lot easier.
