Big Walk: How to Cross the Red Drawbridge
Achievement number one.
In Big Walk, players are first restricted to a smaller section of the huge open-world map, with the opportunity to first learn how puzzle mechanics, item interactions, certain facilities, and progression works in the game.
The first big objective you have is finding a way to cross a red drawbridge on the beach, not far from where you first leave the initial spawn room tunnel. This drawbridge leads to the rest of the map, where you will continue to make new discoveries and progress further through the game. However, to cross the red drawbridge you will need to acquire a key from the compartment on the beach. This handy Big Walk guide covers both how to obtain the key the beach compartment and how to gain access to cross the red drawbridge.
How to Unlock and Cross the Red Drawbridge in Big Walk
In Big Walk, to cross the red drawbridge you will need to unlock the key found in the beach compartment. This compartment consists of four containers and four buttons. With one player pushing one of the buttons, this will open one of the containers, enabling the other player to place red buoys inside.
The red buoys are a reward earned by completing various puzzles around the map. Specifically for this first area, there are four puzzles in total, each of which will provide a buoy for the beach compartment. Only after placing all four buoys in the compartment will the key be released, providing you with access across the drawbridge.
Here is a complete summary of the four puzzles you need to complete for this task. Each one has an individual guide that has been linked below, for a more in-depth walkthrough of each stage.
1 - The Blue Room Puzzle
The blue room puzzle is a picture-based match puzzle where you and your friend will need to work together to determine the correct order of symbols. You can read our complete guide for locating and completing this puzzle here.
After completing this one, one player should grab the buoy, and then I'd recommend heading over to the green structure puzzle to solve that and grab the second buoy, as it's more efficient to complete them two at a time, since everyone has the capacity to carry something.
2 - The Green Structure Puzzle
The Green Structure puzzle can be found a little further past the blue room puzzle, and this time involved a puzzle based on timing. You and your friend will need to stand on opposite sides and pull a lever at the same time to mark this one a success. You can locate the puzzle and get some pointers through our green structure puzzle guide here.
3 & 4 - the Yellow Structure Puzzle & Cube Puzzle
Lastly, we have both the yellow structure puzzle and the cube puzzle. While technically the blue room and green structure puzzle are close enough together that I recommend doing them one after the other and delivering the buoys at the same time, I have looped the yellow structure and cube into the same guide as they are both fairly simplistic puzzles that are close to one another.
If you leave these two for last, it'll be an easy trip to obtaining the key and unlocking the drawbridge. A complete rundown of how both of these puzzles work and where to find them can be found in our complete guide here.
How to Get the Beach Key & Unlock the Drawbridge
Once you have placed all four red buoys in the beach compartment, the golden key in this compartment will now pop out and become free to take. Now you need to pick the key up and take it to the nearby machine to cut the key to the right shape.
You will need to repeat this process for several machines in the surrounding area in order to get the key fully cut. Luckily, after inserting the key into a machine, the red arrow on the top of it will point to the direction of the next machine, allowing you to correctly find them in order and get the key fully prepared.
Once you have completed a quick stop at each of these key cutting machines, head back to the beach. You will now freely be able to use this key to move beyond the red drawbridge, so go and wander on past that beach compartment and up those stairs!
At the top, there is a slot where you can place the now fully cut key. In doing so, the red drawbridge will lower, enabling you to finally cross over and explore the full Big Walk map in all of its glory.
You will also gain the "Big Walk" achievement at this moment, marking the first of many to come.
Lastly, on the other side of the drawbridge there is a large torch that you can pick up. It's a good idea to snag this one, as it is now a lot easier to get lost, and much harder to pinpoint puzzle locations and points of interest.
This torch can certainly come in handy, especially when it gets dark. At the very least, you might as well grab it for now until a better item presents itself, such as a walkie talkie or megaphone.
Now that you've unlocked the drawbridge, your Big Walk adventure is truly getting started. Best of luck out there, friends. Keep an eye out for puzzles that can give you more buoys to unlock further mysterious locations or facilities, and don't forget to have fun along the way!
